MCS (Mist Cooling System) for Air Cooled Condensers :

Purpose of Installation of MCS for ACHE/ACC

ACHE/ACC is designed to cool/condense product fluid/steam from process plant by air at certain max. ambient temperature.

Normally in peak summer, the air temperature exceeds the designed temperature mainly in day time. This reduces the efficiency of ACHE/ACC by considerable amount.

Hence for running the ACHE/ACC with same efficiency  in summer as like winter months, air has to be cooled to design temperature by some external medium. We propose to do this by passing this inlet air through a water/mist curtain before entering ACHE/ACC.

The detailed scheme is explained below.

Working of Mist Cooling System For Air Cooled Heat Exchanger/Condensers :

As explained in the technology document, Mist creator nozzles induce water to intensive atomization thus subdividing it to around 5 Microns.

As shown in the schematic drawing , a bank of Mist Creator Nozzles shall be installed at an elevation of +3 Mtrs. above ground level/RCC Floor all along 4 sides of Air Cooled Condenser . A collection pond has to be constructed at ground level for collection & circulation of water. Depth of the pond could be kept as 1 to 2 ft. only. Circulation water pumps will be installed at the cold water suction pit of depth 1 to 2 Mtrs created in the MCS pond.

The pump delivery line will bring  pond water to MCS header at desired elevation. Water pressure to be maintained at inlet of Mist Creator Nozzles will be 3 Kg/cm2. Circulation pumps to be designed accordingly.

Mist creator nozzles will be installed in such a fashion that they shall spray water down wards. A mist curtain will be prepared all along the ACHE/ACC Periphery.

Any air entering the ACC shall pass through this Mist curtain thus getting cooled to the designed Air inlet temperature or even lower.

Water will be collected on the RCC floor/suction pit of MCS pond and the cycle will continue.
